Wedding fever

You will probably be aware of the latest obsession plaguing the world. Since Prince William's engagement to Kate Middleton, people have got really caught up in this royal wedding craze. So called 'memorabilia' seems to have storm the web and high streets, all in aid of this event for [no offence] people who we otherwise wouldn't care less about. I was going to write "it's not as if we are all invited" but according to my local pub, they are broadcasting it live so it will be like we are there. JOY!
In all fairness, it's not often that members of the royal family get married (although I'm sure Camilla and Charles weren't too long ago...or daren't I speak of them?) so I can see why everyone is excited, I am thankful however, for our bank holiday in aid of it all :)
Anyway, I don't object to the celebrations but some of the memorabilia is somewhat 'tacky', I mean if anyone designed things like the following for my wedding, I would die of embarrassment:

however, we have to bear in mind that there will always be people with more money than sense in this world who will buy them-hey, who am I to judge?! Mind you, with all this talk of street parties (I feel deprived, I've never experienced a street party), and royal cupcakes and bunting, I am beginning to be pulled into this excitement. There are so many royal cupcakes and wedding cakes I have seen, I really want to try it myself. Not to mention, as well as the vile merchandise, it has also reinforced the patriarchal trend which has been sweeping the country for a while now so there are lots of pretty, union jack things available :)
