A bit of a catch up

Sorry it’s been so long, I’ve had a lot going on over the last few weeks. I had the last exam of second year this week, so that is a massive weight off of my mind for now. I just have to start thinking more deeply about dissertation topics between now and September and then there will be placements and other things to keep me busy :)
Chris came to visit me a few weeks ago, which was great, but I  will do another post about that soon (be prepared to read lots about food, because that is basically what the week consisted of!)

Back to the topic at hand, though; I’ve recently found myself in a bit of a blogging predicament - I am caught between the idea of gaining page views and using my blog as a diary, which was the original intention. Following my post about Page 3, I had 70 page views overnight which tells me that people read blogs which are topical. Someone told me not to long ago, that by looking at the layout of my blog it seems as though it is a fashion blog. Fashion blogs are extremely popular amongst lots of women at the moment but, unfortunately, I can’t pull in the readers from there; much as I really like looking at other people’s fashion based blogs and occasionally writing about things I have bought (materialistic side shining through!), I don’t think I could target my topics to be purely about that.  My problem is that I  like writing about a variety of things, be it my life or fashion or news stories that have interested me and I don’t want to lose readers of either style. So I have come to a decision. Readership is not the key issue when writing a blog, and that is a piece of advice that I would give to anybody who is planning to write a blog. It is, however, something to keep in mind…especially if you can gain it whilst writing about what you love.
I hereby set myself a challenge: over the next few months, I will continue to write the odd mundane* blog post about where I have been on days out etc., but I will also write one ‘article’ type post a fortnight in response to things which are going on in the world, whether it’s in regards to a protest or news story. Hopefully this will keep everyone who reads my blog happy and, more so, keep myself happy with how I am writing.

*mundane depending on who is reading it
