Learning retreat

I have spent the last week (well odd days, due to prior commitments) in a cottage in the middle of nowhere, Potash Barns in Suffolk, to be precise. In fact, this place was so rural that there were fields of sheep, horses, goats and many more all around the buildings…and it was incredible! I went with the student union to have a few days of intense training, and bonding with the new team. As we had a fairly large group, we pretty much had full reign of the complex (best description for it, really).

Between training sessions, we were free to wander around the grounds where we could play pool, table tennis, or go on the trampoline (although, typically for me I managed to graze my elbow on the trampoline!).

Just in case anyone wanted to see my poorly arm...

This was all, perhaps surprisingly, beneficial, as none of us had really spent much time together before and each little activity meant that we were able to chat and bond; it will almost certainly aid our campaigning and general teamwork when September rolls around.

This week has really excited me, as it’s opened my eyes to what my new role will involve and the extent to which we as students can make a change! I feel a lot more confident, not only that I will be able to approach whatever is thrown my way, but also that all of the officers are there to support one another.

Until next time dear reader,
