College is so much larger than school. It's  so easy to blend in a meet new people, and you know what? The best thing about college is leaving behind the people you really hated throughout the 5 years at secondary school. The sad thing, however, (despite being here for over a year, I've only just noticed) is that some of the people you were friends with before drift apart.

Don't get me wrong, I still have a couple of the same friends - like my best friends in the world - but it really puts into perspective who cares and who doesn't. Laura* and I were quite close at Secondary School. We were never 'bezzie mates' but we were close and could chat and her mum would ask me to babysit her little sister etc. Yesterday, I bumped into Laura in the corridor, "Hi! I've not seen you in ages!" I said... "Oh, uhm...hi" she said, "I'm in a rush so gotta go. Bye". Not so much as a 'I'll text you'. Never mind :/

Same thing happens with my other friend Zara*. We had pretty much one-to-one French lessons for 2 years together at school but you wouldn't tell it now. I frequently get the same bus as her and consequently try to spark a conversation...you know, the general stuff, "How are you finding college?" "Oh, you went to China didn't you? What was it like?" I always get the same one word response, "Fine". It's somewhat disheartening if I'm completely honest. I'm not one to care what people think of me but I can't help but take offence in a situation like that...I mean, surely people can make time for more than one word answers?

Oh well, some you win. Some you lose. You know what? I've kept my absolute best friends, won some great friends and gained a wonderful boyfriend so I guess that college introduces you to the rest of your life.
