Mum’s birthday

Last Sunday, I went home for my mum’s birthday. It was a mad rush, as I had to get back from Saxmundum (see previous post), make sure I was all packed, and head off to the station for a journey which I knew would be disrupted (Greater Anglia have nothing ‘great’ about them). Luckily, my housemate’s Aunt brought us back to uni which saved a lot of trouble. I had already packed, and it was just a case of double checking, and relocating my toiletry bag from Saturday’s bag, into my other holdall. Then I was all set!
My journey was completely messed up (as predicted), but it could have been worse. I had to make 4 changes on a journey which can normally be done in 2 (1.5hrs), but when I had researched it earlier in the week it had been suggested to take 6 changes (4hrs) so I was extremely glad that this was not the case!
When I got home it was mum’s birthday, but my present hadn’t arrived yet (I got Amazon to send it gift wrapped, just in case I wouldn’t be able to come home on the day) so I was a bit disappointed. She later said that it didn’t feel like her birthday; this made me sad so I dedicated Monday to making her a birthday cake. It was such a simple idea at the time. Then I realised that my dad is trying to cut out dairy and gluten (as well as other stuff!) for health reasons, and obviously I wanted him to have some birthday cake too, so I became a girl on a mission.
I found this: http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/5870/glutenfree-lemon-drizzle-cake, which I used as a basis but then I adapted it so the recipe ended up as follows…

Et voila!

Whilst I was home, I saw Hotel Transylvania with Chris. It’s a children’s film but I would highly recommend it, as it gave plenty of laughs (and a few cries!)

After two weekends running, I’m not sure when I’ll next be home. Hopefully it will be before Christmas but what with assignments and a distinct lack of money on everyone’s part, I’m not sure it’ll happen.

xx

p.s. Short Story is currently sitting at 2000 words! Gradual process, but it’s getting there!
