Easter springs

After a very strange kind of Easter holiday, I'm sad to say it's now back to the grindstone in every sense of the imagination. I am glad I managed to spend a lot longer at home than I had expected, however, and an quite sure my family and Chris were pleased to have me around for the few days here and there.

On the day before I set back to uni, we had a trip to London! The plan was that my parents would go to the Manet exhibition at the Royal Academy whilst Chris and I went to the Science museum as well as possibly the Natural History museum, and we would meet up in the city once we had all finished.
Unfortunately the queue for the art exhibition was insanely long and as it was raining outside, my parents didn't fancy standing outside to become drowned rats. Instead, they had a coffee and sauntered around the shops whilst Chris and I went around the science museum.

We really enjoy it there; I'm not a big fan of museums but I think I find it interesting because it's a lot more interactive than most others.
We tried to go to the 'launchpad' area before we left, as it is the activity section [intended for children, but great fun for adults too!] an there was one particular challenge which Chris quite wanted to try again after unsuccessfully completing it when we went last year. Unfortunately because it was the school holidays, the launch pad was packed to the gunnels and we had no chance of getting in.
Once we had finished in the Science museum, we met up with my parents [the queue for the natural history museum was too long for my liking].

We took a quick visit to 'VinMag', a vintage magazine shop, [which was incredible!] before going for a posh meal at a restaurant called Brasserie Zédel on Sherwood Street, London. It is the most incredible building, as it is designed to look like a traditional 1930s bar and restaurant. You can find out more about this on their website, where they also have a few photographs.

I had a very tasty 2 course meal from the prix fixe menu, at a very reasonable price:

I had never had Steak Haché before, and therefore was intrigued as to what it would be. The best way to describe it is as a beef patty, but the description really fails to do it justice as it definitely is more steak than burger! If you are interested in reading a better describtion of a steak haché, The Independent has a very good explanation of it, here. It arrived in the centre of the plate, in a peppercorn sauce and a pot [best way to describe it...it was almost like a really small metal vase...there's probably a real name for it!] of french fries. It was absolutely delicious!
As a two course meal, I also had the Café Gourmand which, for those of you who are like me and had never heard of it before, was a dish with two miniture desserts and a cup of coffee. I didn't want a hot drink, however, so we managed to swap it for tea and my dad drank it [ooh we're sneaky devils!].

As we took a stroll around London, before heading home, we went via Carnaby Street. My day was made as we found a shop which I didn't realise existed in London...Choccywoccydoodah!

I had seen several episodes of their television programme and found it astonishing to see the artists' [because that's what they are, really, artists] work in person! It was absolutely amazing! I definitely found several things I will be buying when I'm rich and famous ;)

We found out that this costs in the region of £3000+...worth it? Yes.

Chris wasn't anywhere near as impressed as I was, as he said that the finish on the back of the cakes looked a little drab and the cakes which were drissled in chocolate looked messy...but come on, can you imagine having the talent to make things like this?!

We did have a few laughs on the way back to the station; for example it is possible to miss this giant plug if you're not looking for it:

I did wonder how London is powered!

and this made us all giggle as, according to the rest of their shop signage, their shop is actually called 'CMY DESIGNS'...I would not be happy if I found out my shop sign had been mispelt!

Overall, I can safely say that it was a wonderful way to spend my final day with my family, before heading back to assignments galore!

Thanks for reading, I will hopefully update when everything university related is a bit calmer [and I have other things to write about than how 'busy' I am!]
