Olympic Excitement

So, after 7 years of preparation and thousands of Union Flags, the London Olympics have finally arrived. Billions of pounds have been spent organising this huge event, so with any luck it will be well worth it! I found an interesting article on The Guardian online, which outlines all the expenditures [well, all of the expenditures that we’re allowed to know about ;)]

A rather interesting interactive spider diagram can be found on The Guardian's website.

The one thing I think the vast majority of British citizens were concerned about, is that our opening ceremony would be terribly embarrassing and look dreadful in comparison with the Beijing Olympics in 2008:

In actual fact, I was pleasantly surprised by how effective it all looked. There was a tribute to the NHS, which was nice as they rarely receive the appreciation that they deserve (although I’m sure they would have preferred a monetary bonus!). One thing I, personally, thought of when watching the opening ceremony was “Britain’s got Talent”, as there was so much dancing going on!

You can watch the highlights here. Some of the other countries have actually said that the reason they liked the London Olympics was because it is more human based than that of Beijing’s.

Much as I am not too bothered about the Olympics, I do genuinely hope that ‘Team GB’ do well this year. Only time will tell!
